Gutter Helmet Cost Per Foot (2026): Real Prices vs LeafFilter, LeafGuard & Local Options
Gutter Helmet costs about $25 to $65 per linear foot installed in 2026. Two Gutter Helmet installers publish $25–$60 and $30–$55+ per foot, and This Old House cites $35–$65+ while using $38 per foot as its working average. At that average a typical 200-foot system comes to about $7,600 (This Old House, June 2026). Across the full published range, a home with 130 to 200 feet of gutter works out to roughly $3,250 to $13,000 before fascia repairs or new gutters.
Gutter Helmet's own website lists no prices, so every number on this page comes from a dealer, a reviewer, or a manufacturer page we opened and linked in the Sources list. Where sources disagree, we show the range and say so. Figures were checked on September 30, 2026. For how the three big brands perform rather than what they cost, see our LeafFilter vs Gutter Helmet vs LeafGuard comparison.

A perforated aluminum guard on a K-style gutter. Gutter Helmet is a different design: a solid, ribbed hood that curves over the gutter's front edge and lets water in through a narrow opening.
The 2026 numbers at a glance
- Gutter Helmet: $25–$65 per linear foot installed; about $7,600 for 200 feet at This Old House's $38-per-foot average.
- LeafFilter: $16.31 to $41.72 per foot on average, depending on which 2026 This Old House page you read.
- LeafGuard: $21.67 to $39.59 per foot on average (This Old House), and the price includes brand-new gutters.
- Local stainless micro-mesh in Rocklin: most homes land between $12 and $20 per foot installed with us; we confirm the exact price after measuring. Our typical product is LeafBlaster Pro, Gutterglove's contractor-only stainless micro-mesh line.
- Under pines: This Old House's pine-needle testing says to avoid reverse-curve guards like Gutter Helmet; micro-mesh worked best.

Gutter Helmet sells through its own installer network and quotes every house after an in-home measurement. Its website advertises “$250 Off” but no list price, so the only public numbers come from the installers themselves and from reviewers. These are all the 2026 Gutter Helmet cost per linear foot figures we could open and verify:
| Source | Who they are | Gutter Helmet price, installed |
|---|---|---|
| Gutter Helmet of SE Michigan | Gutter Helmet dealer | $25–$60 per linear foot |
| Lednor Home Solutions (2026 price table) | Installs Gutter Helmet | $30–$55+ per linear foot (reverse-curve category) |
| This Old House, LeafFilter vs. Gutter Helmet (updated June 17, 2026) | Reviewer, citing Lednor | $35–$65+ per linear foot; $7,000+ for 200 ft |
| This Old House, Leafguard vs. Gutter Helmet (updated June 17, 2026) | Reviewer | $38 per linear foot; $7,600 for 200 ft |
All four are national or out-of-state figures. We found no published Gutter Helmet pricing specific to California or Placer County, so use the range to judge whether a Rocklin quote is in the normal band, not to predict it to the dollar. The two installer ranges overlap at $30–$55, which is where most of the published evidence sits.
How much does Gutter Helmet cost for a whole house?
Multiply the per-foot price by the measured length of every gutter run that gets a hood. Our 2026 gutter cost guide puts a 1,500-square-foot single-story home at about 130 linear feet and notes that a 3,000-square-foot two-story can exceed 200. Here is the published range applied to those lengths:
| Gutter length | At $25/ft (low) | At $38/ft (This Old House average) | At $65/ft (high) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 ft | $2,500 | $3,800 | $6,500 |
| 130 ft (about a 1,500 sq ft single-story) | $3,250 | $4,940 | $8,450 |
| 150 ft | $3,750 | $5,700 | $9,750 |
| 200 ft (a 3,000 sq ft two-story can exceed this) | $5,000 | $7,600 | $13,000 |
Arithmetic on the published per-foot figures above. These are not quotes and include no fascia repair, gutter replacement, or discounts.
If your number lands well outside that band, the quote almost certainly includes something besides the hood (new gutters, fascia work, extra downspouts) or a promotion has already been applied. Ask for the measured footage and the per-foot price as separate lines so you can compare it against anything else.
What Drives the Price of Gutter Helmet?
Gutter Helmet of SE Michigan lists the drivers as home size and gutter length, roof type and pitch, installation complexity, customization, and add-on work such as cleaning, repairs or new gutters. Gutter Topper, another hood maker, lists the number of stories, roof pitch, fascia repairs, gutter size and condition, and the number of corners. On a Rocklin house, those come down to five things.
1. Story height and roof pitch
A second story means taller ladders, more setup and slower work, and a steep pitch makes every bracket harder to reach. Both installers above name pitch and complexity as price factors, and our own cost guide says the same of local work: two-story homes and steeper pitches add time and equipment. Expect a two-story Rocklin tract home with several inside corners to price toward the upper half of the range.
2. Fascia and rafter-tail condition
A hood is a long piece of aluminum fastened to your house. Gutter Helmet says it mounts with “heavy-duty brackets,” and Gutter Topper screws its hood to the roof deck. Whatever the fasteners bite into has to be sound. Gutter Helmet's warranty service covers cleaning, inspecting, repairing and adjusting the alignment of your gutters as part of the install, so ask where “repairing” stops: soft fascia boards or rotted rafter tails behind them are carpentry, usually priced separately. For local work, our cost guide lists $75–$200 for gutters that need re-pitching, new hangers or joint sealing before guards go on, and fascia repair in Rocklin is quoted on its own.
3. Removing old guards
Screens, foam inserts and old covers have to come off and be hauled away before a hood goes on. None of the Gutter Helmet sources above state whether removal is included, so ask. When a local installer bills it separately, our gutter guard installation cost guide for Rocklin lists old-guard removal at $1–$3 per foot.
4. New gutters bundled into the quote
If your gutters sag, leak at the seams or are too small, the dealer may quote new seamless gutters plus Gutter Helmet; the Michigan dealer advertises a combined seamless-gutter and Gutter Helmet promotion. That quote is no longer comparable to a hood-only price. Compare it against LeafGuard, which always includes new gutters, or against local new gutters plus guards: our cost guide lists seamless gutters at $8–$15 per foot (old-gutter removal included) and guards at $12–$20, or $20–$35 per foot combined. See gutter replacement in Rocklin for what that job includes.
5. Sales-visit pricing and “today-only” discounts
Gutter Helmet's site advertises $250 off; the Michigan dealer advertised up to 18% off for orders through September 30, 2026, and says it runs promotions every month. This Old House reports that LeafFilter reps opened at $8,000–$10,000 or more and came down during negotiation, and that LeafFilter quotes stay valid for a year. The pattern across the category is the same: the first number at the kitchen table is a starting point, and a discount that expires tonight usually has a successor next month.
California law backs you up. A home improvement contract signed at home can be cancelled until midnight of the third business day (the fifth if you are 65 or older) after you receive a signed, dated copy (Civil Code 1689.6), and the down payment is capped at $1,000 or 10% of the contract, whichever is less, unless the contractor carries the bonds the statute allows as an exemption (Business and Professions Code 7159.5).
Gutter Helmet vs LeafFilter vs LeafGuard Cost
These three get compared more than any other brands, but their prices are not apples to apples. Gutter Helmet and LeafFilter go on the gutters you already have. LeafGuard is a one-piece gutter with the hood built in, so its price always includes tearing out your old gutters and hanging new ones.
| Gutter Helmet | LeafFilter | LeafGuard | Local micro-mesh(Rocklin Gutter Guard) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Product type | Ribbed aluminum reverse-curve hood over existing gutters | Stainless steel micro-mesh on a uPVC frame over existing gutters | One-piece gutter with built-in reverse-curve hood; replaces your gutters | LeafBlaster Pro stainless micro-mesh on most jobs (a standard micro-mesh guard on some), over existing gutters |
| Per linear foot, installed | $25–$65 | $16.31 (June 2026) to $41.72 (Aug 2026) average | $21.67 (June 2026) to $39.59 (Aug 2026) average; a competing installer lists $50–$75+ | $12–$20 for most homes, confirmed after measuring |
| 200-foot home | About $7,600 | $3,262–$8,344 | $4,334–$7,919 | $2,400–$4,000 |

Why the sources disagree
This Old House publishes two sets of brand averages in 2026. Its June pages put LeafFilter at $16.31 and LeafGuard at $21.67 per foot. Its August cost pages, drawn from a 2026 survey of 1,000 homeowners nationwide, put LeafFilter at $41.72 and LeafGuard at $39.59. We show both rather than pick one. The same August survey found surface-tension helmets, the category Gutter Helmet belongs to, were the most expensive guard type at an average of $8,244 per 200 feet, just above micro-mesh at $8,101.
LeafFilter vs LeafGuard cost
On the August survey numbers the two are within about $2 a foot. The difference is what you get for it: LeafGuard's price buys new gutters with the hood formed in, while LeafFilter's price is for covers on the gutters you have. If your gutters are sound, LeafGuard means paying to replace something that works. If they are failing, LeafGuard's number covers both jobs and should be compared with new seamless gutters plus guards, not with LeafFilter alone. For how each handles debris and heavy rain, see the head-to-head LeafFilter vs LeafGuard breakdown.
Leaf Relief vs Gutter Helmet
These are two different technologies. Leaf Relief, made by Ply Gem, is a perforated aluminum cover: water drops through holes across the top, and Ply Gem says it mounts directly to the gutter, so the shingles are never lifted. Gutter Helmet is a solid hood: water follows the curved front edge into a narrow opening, and Gutter Helmet says it can be installed over or under asphalt shingles “as per factory specifications” without affecting your roof warranty.
| Leaf Relief (Ply Gem) | Gutter Helmet | |
|---|---|---|
| How water gets in | Through perforations across the top (“Aluma-Perf”) | Around a ribbed, curved front edge into a narrow opening |
| Attachment | Mounts directly to the gutter; shingles not lifted | Heavy-duty brackets; over or under asphalt shingles per factory specifications |
| Pine needles and fine debris | Standard version blocks leaves and twigs; dual-layer DuoPro is designed for fine debris such as pine needles | This Old House: reverse-curve systems like Gutter Helmet “typically have difficulty” with pine needles |
| Warranty | 25-year No-Clog, No-Overflow; DuoPro 35-year | Lifetime material and performance for the original purchaser |
| Manufacturer rain rating | Drains over 29 inches per hour | Not stated on the Gutter Helmet pages we reviewed |
| Published price | None; Ply Gem refers buyers to dealers | None from the brand; installers publish $25–$60 and $30–$55+ per foot |
We could not find a verifiable 2026 per-foot price for Leaf Relief, so we do not print one; get both quoted on the same measured footage. The practical split: under pines, Leaf Relief's DuoPro is built for needles and a hood is not. Under broad-leaf trees only, either works, and the choice comes down to price and warranty. Gutter Helmet's lifetime coverage runs for the original purchaser and transfers only if the new owner registers within 45 days; Leaf Relief's is a fixed 25 or 35 years.
Gutter Topper vs Gutter Helmet
These are the same idea from two companies. Both are surface-tension hoods. Gutter Topper describes a rounded “nose” that water clings to before dropping through slots at the bottom, while leaves stay on the flat top and blow off once dry. This Old House describes Gutter Helmet's hood as strengthened by horizontal ribs that steer water down through a small opening along the edge. The differences are in how they attach, what the warranty covers, and the quote.
| Gutter Topper | Gutter Helmet | |
|---|---|---|
| Attachment | Over existing gutters, screwed to the roof deck with sealant over the screws; no brackets or hangers | Heavy-duty brackets; over or under asphalt shingles per factory specifications |
| Manufacturer ratings | 22 inches of rain per hour; 110 mph wind with no lift | Not stated on the pages we reviewed |
| Warranty | 20-year transferable paint finish warranty on the original Gutter Topper; terms vary by product | Lifetime material (including the PermaLife finish) and performance for the original purchaser |
| How it is sold | Exclusively through a dealer network; made near Cincinnati, Ohio | Through Gutter Helmet installers after an in-home estimate |
| Published price | None | None from the brand; installers publish $25–$60 and $30–$55+ per foot |
We found no verifiable 2026 price for Gutter Topper, so the comparison comes down to two written quotes on the same footage. Because both are hoods, they share the same strengths and the same weakness in Placer County, covered next. Gutter Topper's own FAQ is candid on upkeep: it says no gutter protection is totally maintenance free and recommends cleaning the product twice a year, “especially if you have a hooded product.” That advice applies to Gutter Helmet too.
How Hood-Style Guards Handle Placer County Oaks and Pine Needles
A reverse-curve hood works when water follows the curve into the opening and debris rides off the front edge. Big, flat, dry leaves do that well. The trouble is that Placer County drops a lot of debris that is small, stringy or needle-shaped, and most of it lands right before the wettest months of the year.
The Debris Drop Runs Straight Into the Rainy Season
Approximate timing from USDA Forest Service FEIS species reviews; rain band from NOAA 1991–2020 normals for Sacramento Executive Airport and Auburn
Pine needles
This Old House tested guards for pine needles by laying needles on each system and running water over them. Its conclusion on reverse-curve designs: the small opening at the front is where pine needles slip in, and it recommends avoiding reverse-curve guards when needles are the problem. Micro-mesh worked best in that test. The USDA Forest Service describes ponderosa pine needles as 5 to 10 inches long, in bundles of three, held for 3 to 4 years and then shed in fall, which means a pine over the roof delivers a fresh load of long needles every autumn. Our guide to the best gutter guards for pine needles in Rocklin compares the options that do stop them.
Oak tassels, leaves and acorns
Oaks give a hood both its best and worst conditions. Whole fall leaves are what reverse-curve covers shed well, and This Old House says the design makes reverse-curve guards “among the most efficient for self-cleaning.” Spring is different: blue oak catkins (the stringy tassels) emerge from March to mid-June and valley oak catkins from March to April, per the Forest Service. Tassels are small, stringy debris, the category This Old House warns can get caught inside a reverse-curve opening. Then blue oaks drop leaves from August to mid-November, valley oaks in November, and acorns fall from late summer into late fall. Our guide to the best gutter guards for oak trees covers how each guard type handles that mix.
Rain: capacity is not the issue, the slot is
NOAA's 1991–2020 normals put about 82% of the year's rain between November and March at both Sacramento Executive Airport (18.14 inches a year) and Auburn (36.12 inches), with Rocklin in between. Rocklin's 100-year, 5-minute design burst is about 3.7 inches per hour (NOAA Atlas 14, as worked out in our ADU gutter sizing guide). Hood makers rate their products far above that: Gutter Topper at 22 inches per hour and LeafGuard at 32. So on paper a clean hood has the capacity.
The catch is the word “clean.” This Old House notes reverse-curve guards can be prone to overflowing when small debris such as pine needles gets caught in the opening. In Placer County the needle and leaf drop ends just as the wet season starts, so a hood that collected needles in its slot in October meets December's storms partly blocked, and the slot sits under the hood where you cannot see it from the ground. Our atmospheric river gutter prep checklist covers what to check before the first big storm.
Bottom line for Rocklin roofs
Pines within reach of the roof: a hood is the wrong tool, on This Old House's testing. Broad-leaf oaks and no pines: a hood can work, but plan to clean the nose and slot the way Gutter Topper recommends for hooded products, and price that upkeep into the comparison. Our guide to why gutter guards fail in Rocklin walks through the failure patterns for every guard type.
When Gutter Helmet Is the Right Call
Gutter Helmet has been on the market for more than 45 years, by its own count, and carries a strong warranty. For some houses it is a reasonable buy even at its price. It fits when most of these are true, and it is a poor fit when the right-hand column describes your roof.
- Your debris is mostly whole broad leaves and no pines hang over the roof.
- Your gutters are sound, so you do not need LeafGuard's full replacement.
- You plan to stay: lifetime material and performance coverage runs for the original purchaser, and the install itself (cleaning, inspecting, repairing, aligning) is covered.
- Your roof is asphalt shingle: Gutter Helmet says GAF, CertainTeed and Owens Corning have evaluated and approved its installation methods, and that it won't affect the roof warranty.
- The quote lands near the low end of the published range, which narrows the gap with local options.
- Pine trees drop needles on the roof; This Old House's testing says to avoid reverse-curve guards.
- You expect free service calls; This Old House reports Gutter Helmet charges a dispatch fee for services.
- You may sell soon and want a simple transfer; the new owner must register within 45 days.
- Your quote tops This Old House's $38-a-foot average on a simple single-story roof, the kind of job that should price below average.
- You are being pushed to sign the same day to keep a discount.
What a Local Installer Charges for Comparable Protection
Our published 2026 pricing, from the Rocklin Gutter Guard cost guide, is simple: most homes land between $12 and $20 per foot installed; we confirm the exact price after measuring. On a 200-foot roof that is $2,400–$4,000. Our typical installation is LeafBlaster Pro, Gutterglove's contractor-only stainless micro-mesh line, and on some jobs we install a standard micro-mesh guard instead. The price includes a cleaning of your existing gutters before the guards go on; re-pitching, new hangers or joint sealing adds $75–$200; and every install carries a written workmanship warranty with the manufacturer's warranty on materials.
| Same 200-foot roof | Per foot | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Gutter Helmet, published range | $25–$65 | $5,000–$13,000 |
| Gutter Helmet, This Old House average | $38 | $7,600 |
| Local stainless micro-mesh (Rocklin Gutter Guard) | $12–$20 | $2,400–$4,000 |
Totals are per-foot rate times 200 feet. Your quote depends on measured footage, stories, corners and gutter condition.
If you want a hood specifically, compare your Gutter Helmet quote against another hood installer's bid on the same footage; we install stainless micro-mesh rather than hoods. If pines are part of the picture, micro-mesh is the better fit for the money, which matches This Old House's pine-needle testing. Either way, the Rocklin gutter guard cost breakdown explains the add-ons that move a quote, and our gutter guard installation service page shows what an install includes.

How to Get a Fair Gutter Helmet Quote: 8 Questions to Ask
Use these at the in-home appointment, and get every answer in writing on the contract or estimate.
- “How many linear feet did you measure, and what is the price per foot?” Without both numbers you cannot compare the quote with the $25–$65 published range or with anyone else's bid.
- “What exactly is included?” Hood only, or also cleaning, re-hanging, re-pitching, downspout work, fascia repair, or new gutters? Gutter Helmet's warranty service covers cleaning, inspecting, repairing and aligning the gutters; ask where repairs end and carpentry begins.
- “Is old-guard removal and disposal in the price?” If you have screens or foam now, get it stated either way.
- “Will the hood go over or under my shingles, and does that meet my shingle maker's specs?” Gutter Helmet says it can do either “as per factory specifications.” Get the method written on the contract.
- “What does service cost after install?” This Old House reports a dispatch fee for Gutter Helmet service calls. Ask the amount and whether it applies to warranty claims.
- “How does the warranty treat pine needles and small debris?” If you have pines, ask what happens when needles collect in the opening, and who pays for the visit.
- “Will you honor this price for 30 days?” Gutter Helmet installers run recurring promotions. A price that is only good tonight is a sales tactic, not a property of the product.
- “What is your CSLB license number?” Check it at cslb.ca.gov before you sign. Then remember the two California rules above: the 3-day cancellation right (5 days if you are 65 or older) and the $1,000-or-10% down payment cap.

Gutter Helmet Cost FAQ
How much does Gutter Helmet cost per foot?
About $25 to $65 per linear foot installed in 2026. Gutter Helmet of SE Michigan, a Gutter Helmet dealer, publishes $25 to $60 per linear foot; Lednor Home Solutions, which installs Gutter Helmet, lists reverse-curve systems such as Gutter Helmet at $30 to $55 or more; and This Old House cites $35 to $65 or more, using $38 per foot as its working average. Gutter Helmet itself does not publish prices, so every real number comes from an in-home quote.
How much does Gutter Helmet cost for a whole house?
This Old House prices a typical 200-linear-foot Gutter Helmet system at about $7,600, based on $38 per foot. Across the published $25 to $65 per foot range, a home with 130 feet of gutter works out to roughly $3,250 to $8,450 and a home with 200 feet to $5,000 to $13,000, before fascia repairs or new gutters.
Is Gutter Helmet more expensive than LeafFilter?
It depends on which numbers you use. In This Old House's June 2026 LeafFilter vs Gutter Helmet comparison, LeafFilter averaged $16.31 per linear foot while Gutter Helmet was quoted at $35 to $65 or more, which makes Gutter Helmet far more expensive. This Old House's August 2026 LeafFilter cost page, based on a 2026 homeowner survey, puts LeafFilter at $41.72 per foot, close to the $38 it uses for Gutter Helmet. Treat them as similarly priced premium brands and compare real quotes on the same measured footage.
LeafFilter vs LeafGuard cost: which costs more?
They land close together, but they are not the same purchase. This Old House's August 2026 survey data puts LeafFilter at $41.72 per linear foot and LeafGuard at $39.59; its June 2026 pages put LeafFilter at $16.31 and LeafGuard at $21.67. LeafGuard's price includes brand-new one-piece gutters, while LeafFilter goes on the gutters you already have, so LeafGuard is only the better value when your gutters need replacing anyway.
How much does LeafGuard cost per foot?
This Old House reports LeafGuard averages of $21.67 per linear foot (about $4,334 for 200 feet, June 2026) and $39.59 per linear foot (about $7,919 for 200 feet, August 2026 homeowner survey). Lednor Home Solutions, a competing installer, lists one-piece systems such as LeafGuard at $50 to $75 or more per foot. Every LeafGuard price includes new gutters, because LeafGuard replaces your existing system.
What is the difference between Leaf Relief and Gutter Helmet?
Leaf Relief, made by Ply Gem, is a perforated aluminum cover that mounts directly to the gutter, so the shingles are not lifted. Its standard version carries a 25-year No-Clog, No-Overflow warranty, and the dual-layer DuoPro version, designed for fine debris such as pine needles, carries 35 years. Gutter Helmet is a solid, ribbed reverse-curve hood that Gutter Helmet says can be installed over or under asphalt shingles, with lifetime material and performance coverage for the original purchaser. Ply Gem does not publish Leaf Relief prices; both are quoted through dealers.
Is Gutter Topper the same as Gutter Helmet?
They work the same way. Both are surface-tension hoods: water clings to a curved front edge and drops into the gutter while leaves slide off. Gutter Topper screws to the roof deck with no brackets or hangers and carries a 20-year transferable paint finish warranty, while Gutter Helmet mounts with brackets and carries lifetime material and performance coverage for the original purchaser. Neither company publishes prices, and Gutter Topper's own FAQ recommends cleaning hooded products twice a year.
